Wilber School Redevelopment Committee

November 1, 2004

Approved-November 8, 2004

Attendance:

Committee members: Bob Levin, Marilyn Z. Kahn, Melissa Mills, David Gordon, James Glaser, Craig Edwards, Jim Goldsmith (Chairperson), Reese Schroeder, Joel Tran, Marcia Liebman, Michael Baskin

Guests: Selectman David Grasfield and Bill Heitin

Jim Goldsmith called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

A motion was made by the committee to accept the minutes from 10/20 meeting.

Jim will arrange with Eric Hooper to tour the Wilber School, if it is safe, on a Sunday morning.

There was extensive discussion on the committee’s mission statement.

Issues were raised if it should be very specific or include a more global approach which would include the town’s needs overall.

After lengthy discussion the following mission statement was unanimously approved.

“To help residents of Sharon make an informed decision about the future use of the Wilber School Building and site.”

(I know this is not the edited version, but the edits don’t make sense upon rereading.)

At the next meeting, Joel will make a short presentation on the zoning allowed at the site.

At the next meeting, Eric Hooper will be invited to attend and present the status of the building with visual aids.

For the next meeting Reese will summarize the historical grants available to the site.

For the next meeting David Gordon will look into foundation grants.

It was suggested that David DePree and Joel Tran work on contacting developers in soliciting interest in the Wilber site after there is a consensus of what should be offered to developers.

Melissa volunteered to work with Town officials to post the agenda, meeting minutes and act as a liaison to the Town’s web site. She will also contact Marlene Chused for filing an official set of minutes at Town Hall.

Jim will act as a liaison to the local business community and Marcia will liaison the residential community in the neighborhood.

There was a suggestion that the committee should write letters and keep the community informed of the status of the committee

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40.

Joel Tran, Secretary for a day.
